Costa Rica has confirmed 295 cases of the novel coronavirus, the Health Ministry announced Saturday afternoon. The figure marks a 32-person increase over the same time Friday. It matches the largest day-over-day increase in known cases of COVID-19 within Costa Rica. In addition, 15 people are now hospitalized with COVID-19, six more than on Friday.
The United States Embassy in Costa Rica made the first of two planned donations of medical supplies to the Costa Rican Social Security System (CCSS). As part of the U.S. Southern Command’s humanitarian assistance program, the Embassy provided Costa Rica with 9,700 isolation gowns and 57,000 pairs of surgical gloves, according to a press release.
Separate projects at the University of Costa Rica (UCR) and the Costa Rica Institute of Technology (TEC) could help the country be better prepared for an increase in coronavirus cases. Both universities are creating emergency ventilators that could be used by health professionals to treat patients in respiratory distress due to COVID-19. At UCR, a
